Know Your Rights Foundation

We are over at 25 Shyamal Raw House 3 on Satellite Road. It’s right near the Someshwar Complex in Ahmedabad. Know Your Rights Foundation is basically run out of this house. It’s not a corporate headquarters with a dozen floors. We just have a couple of rooms where we keep our files and meet people. Being in a raw house means it’s a bit more relaxed than a typical office. People can just come by and sit on the porch if the weather is nice. We deal with a lot of questions about how things work and what people are allowed to do. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes with all the paperwork, but we get through it. We aren't lawyers in expensive suits. We are just people who have spent a lot of time reading up on rules. The Satellite Road area is pretty busy, but our little corner is usually okay. We don't do big events or have a PR person. If someone has a problem, they usually find us through a friend or just see the small sign we have. It’s a very hands-on way of working. We spend a lot of time on the phone or drinking tea with visitors. It’s just how we operate here in Ahmedabad, keeping it simple and looking out for our neighbors. We try to explain things in plain English so everyone understands. It’s just a small house doing what it can for the neighborhood.
