Roop Kishor General Store

Roop Kishor General Store is a small spot in the Main Marketa area of Aharan in Agra. It’s a bit far from the tourist parts of the city, which suits us just fine because we mostly serve the local families who live around here. The shop is basically one large room filled with metal racks and heavy sacks of grains. We have been running this place for a long time and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we are usually too busy to get around to it. It gets really hot in Agra during the summer months, so we spend a lot of the afternoon sitting near the old cooler we have in the corner. Most of the people who walk in are looking for basic groceries or maybe some sweets for their kids. We don't have a website or any of that stuff; people just know where we are because we have always been here. Sometimes we run out of change and have to ask the neighbor shop for some coins, which is how things work in a small market like Aharan. We handle everything ourselves, from lifting the heavy bags to sweeping the front step every morning. It’s hard work and the hours are long, but it is how we have always lived. The shop isn't anything special to look at, but it has everything a house needs to keep running.
