Rakhi General Store

Rakhi General Store is a local business in the Main Market of Barahan, out in the Agra district. It is the kind of shop where the door is always open and the radio is usually playing somewhere in the back. We keep all the basic things like soap, lentils, and stationery for the school kids. The building is an old one, with thick walls and high ceilings that keep it from getting too hot in the middle of the day. We have a few wooden benches where people sometimes sit for a minute to rest while they do their shopping. The market outside is always full of cows and scooters, so it can be quite noisy most afternoons. We have a routine of cleaning the counters and checking the stock every morning before the first customer arrives. It is not a very large place, but we try to use every inch of space we have to store things. You might find some dust on the top shelves, but that is just because it's hard to reach up there every single day. We don't use any big words to describe what we do here. We just sell things that people use in their houses and try to be helpful when someone can’t find exactly what they are looking for. It is a steady life, and we are happy to be part of the community here in Barahan. We've been here a long time now.
