Mohit General Store

We open up the Mohit General Store every morning around eight when the sun is just starting to hit the shutter. The shop is at C-634 in the T Y C area of Agra, right in the middle of the Main Bazar. It’s not a very big place, just enough room for a few people to stand and the rest is all shelves. We keep things like soap, washing powder, different kinds of biscuits, and some basic school supplies like pens and notebooks. The T Y C area gets pretty busy with people going to work, so the first few hours are usually spent handing out small things. I have a small fan that doesn't do much when it gets really hot in June, but we manage. Sometimes the inventory gets a bit mixed up because we have so many small items packed into the corners. We don't have a computer system, so I just write everything down in a thick register. If someone asks for something we don't have, like a specific brand of hair oil, I make a note to ask the distributor when he comes by on Tuesday. The Main Bazar is noisy with the sounds of horns and people talking, but you stop noticing it after an hour or two. My cousin Mohit stops by in the afternoon to help out so I can go home for a quick lunch. It’s just a normal shop for the people living nearby.
