Mahaveer Jain General Store

Mahaveer Jain General Store is a familiar sight for the people living around Namner in the Main Bazar. The shop has been in the same spot for a long time and the front door has a heavy iron lock that we open every morning. Inside, it’s a bit dark because the building is old, but we have enough lights to see the items on the tall shelves. We carry everything from cleaning supplies like mops and buckets to cooking essentials like salt and sugar. There are big jars of pickles sitting near the entrance that catch the light. The floor is made of smooth stone that stays cool even when the Agra sun is beating down outside. We spend our time checking the stock and talking to the neighbors who drop in for a chat while they buy their groceries. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the narrow street and we have to help them unload the heavy crates quickly. It’s a lot of lifting and carrying every single day. We don't have a big sign, just the name written on the wall. The counter is always a bit messy with slips of paper and pens. It’s just a plain, honest shop where we try to keep the things people ask for the most. No one is in a huge rush here and that’s how we like to run things in this neighborhood.
