Jay Durga General Store

Our shop, Jay Durga General Store, is situated right in the heart of Dayal Bagh here in Agra. It’s been a part of our daily lives for many years, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change around us. We keep a variety of goods that people need for their homes, like pulses, spices, soaps, and snacks. The store isn’t very big, so we use every inch of space to keep things organized. Agra can get quite dusty and hot, so there is always a bit of cleaning to do to keep the shelves looking decent. I usually sit at the counter from early morning until we close late in the evening. My son often comes by to help after his classes, especially when we have to move heavy sacks of grain. We don’t have any of that corporate polish or fancy technology; we just use a simple notebook to manage our accounts. Most of our customers are regulars who have been coming to us for years. We know their preferences and often have their usual items ready before they even ask. It’s a quiet, steady kind of work that doesn’t require much more than a bit of patience and a friendly word. We aren't trying to compete with the big malls; we just want to be a reliable place for the people in Dayal Bagh to get their groceries and daily essentials. That is all there is to it.
