Janta Lace Works is over in the Hing Ki Mandi area, specifically at 4-66 Takia Wazir Shah. It’s a busy part of town with a lot of history. Our shop is filled with rolls of lace and spools of thread in every color you can think of. The air smells a bit like old fabric and dust. We spend our time winding lace onto cards or helping people find the exact pattern they need for a dress or a curtain. It can be a bit overwhelming with so many boxes stacked up to the ceiling. We’ve been here a long time, and the building shows its age. The floorboards creak a bit when you walk near the back storage. We don't use any high-tech systems. We just know where everything is by memory mostly. It gets very crowded on market days when the narrow lanes are full of shoppers and carts. We try to keep the front tidy, but there’s always a stray bit of trim or a loose thread somewhere. It’s a simple business. We buy the lace, we store it, and we sell it to anyone who needs it. Some of the patterns have been the same for decades. We don't see any reason to change them if people still like them. It’s a small life here in the market, but we like the pace and the people we see every day. Nothing is too fancy, just rolls of thread and hard work.
