Harish Chand Sharma

This shop is situated in Ajeet Market which is part of the Kamla Nagar area in Agra. My name is Harish Chand Sharma and I have been running this place for a long time. People around here just know it by my name. It is a standard general store where we try to keep a bit of everything that a household might run out of. You will find big sacks of rice and sugar near the back and smaller things like toothpaste or tea leaves near the front counter. The market can get quite crowded in the evenings when everyone finishes work. I usually sit on a small stool behind the main counter and wait for neighbors to stop by. Often they stay for a few minutes to talk about the weather or local news while I bag up their groceries. The walls have been painted a dull yellow and there are calendars from three years ago still hanging up because I like the pictures on them. It is not a polished business with computers and barcodes. I still do most of the counting in my head or write things down in a thick register with a blue pen. The air in Kamla Nagar is often dusty so I have to wipe down the glass jars every single morning. It is just me here most of the day, keeping the shop running and making sure the shelves are never completely empty.
