Our place, Gupta General Store And Property Dealer, is located in the Sarswati Nagar area of Balkeshwar in Agra. We do a couple of different things here under one roof. One side of the business is the general store where we keep all the daily necessities like biscuits, soap, and stationery for the kids. The other part is helping people with property stuff around this part of Agra. It makes for an interesting day because one minute I am weighing out some rice and the next I am talking to someone about a plot of land nearby. The shop is right on the street, so it gets quite a bit of sun in the afternoon. We have a couple of plastic chairs out front where people sometimes wait or just sit and chat while they wait for their turn. It is not a polished office environment; there are files stacked near the biscuit tins and maps pinned to the wall next to the candy jars. We have an old calendar hanging on the wall that is a couple of months behind, but nobody seems to mind. We have lived in Balkeshwar for a long time, so we know the local market and the streets pretty well. People come to us because they know where to find us. We don't spend money on fancy marketing. Word of mouth usually does the trick for both the shop and the property work.
