Bharat General Store

Bharat General Store has its home on Shahganj Road in the Bodla area of Agra. We’ve been operating out of this spot for a good while, selling all the basic things a household might run out of. From snacks and cold drinks to washing powder and grains, we try to keep a bit of everything. The shop is located right where the local traffic passes by, so it stays pretty busy most afternoons. We aren't big on decorations; the walls are mostly covered by shelves full of products. It’s a straightforward business where we focus on being here when people need us. Our family helps run the place, so you’ll usually see one of us sitting by the cash box. We don't have a fancy computerized system, we mostly rely on memory and a simple ledger for everything. It’s a bit dusty because of the road outside, but we clean as often as we can. Being in the 282010 area, we see the same faces every day, which is the best part of the job. We know who likes which brand of tea and who usually comes in for a late-night snack. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s ours. We just keep the doors open and try to be useful to the people living around Shahganj Road. That’s all there is to it, really. No big stories, just a shop that stays open late to serve the community.
