I set up my business in Shakuntala Market a long time ago. It’s on Shakuntala Road, right near the Math Choumuhani junction. If you’ve ever been to this market, you know how busy it gets with all the people. There are people shouting, bicycles everywhere, and the smell of fresh vegetables and tea from the nearby stalls. My shop is tucked into one of the corners. It’s not very big, but it belongs to me. I handle various items depending on what people are asking for that month. Most of the day I spend sitting on my wooden stool, watching the crowd go by and talking to the other shopkeepers about the news. We’re all like a big family in this market. If someone needs change or a cup of water, we help each other out without thinking twice. The walls of the shop could use a fresh coat of paint, but I haven't gotten around to doing it yet. I keep my ledgers in a drawer and write everything down by hand in my notebook. I don't use a computer because I never saw the need for one in my line of work. My customers are mostly locals who have been coming to me for years and years. They know they can find me here from early morning until the sun goes down in the evening. Sometimes it rains and the water pools up in front of the door, so I have to put out planks.
