Out here in Samprai Para village, things move at their own pace. F P L Footwear is set up in Bodhjung Nagar, which is under the West Tripura district. It’s a bit of a drive to get out to Ramchandra Nagar to find us, but this is where the work happens. We make shoes and sandals right here on the ground. The workshop has that specific smell of rubber and glue that stays with you all day. We aren't a massive factory with robots, just people from the local area sitting at benches and putting pieces together. Most of the staff live nearby in the village, so we all know each other’s families and what’s going on in the neighborhood. It gets pretty hot in the afternoons, but we keep the fans going and stay busy. The roads around here can be a bit rough during the monsoon, making it tricky for deliveries, yet we always manage to get the boxes out. It’s honest work. We don't have a flashy showroom or anything like that. If you come to the site, you'll see stacks of soles and leather waiting to be used. We focus on making things that last for the people who buy them. It’s just a small operation trying to do right by our customers and the folks who work with us every day. Most of us share tea during the mid-morning break near the gate.
