We set up shop at 19 Ammankoil Street. It’s a small place, nothing fancy at all. We mostly work on clothes, things that people can wear every day. The street is usually pretty narrow, so getting deliveries in can be a bit of a headache sometimes. We have a few machines tucked into the back room and a front area where we keep the finished stacks. It’s just me and a couple of others helping out. We don’t really have a set schedule; we just work until the day's tasks are done. Sometimes we stay late if there’s a lot to finish, and other times we close up early if things are slow. We don’t have any big signs or bright lights. Most people find us just by walking past or hearing about us from someone else on the street. The building is old and the stairs are a bit creaky, but it works for what we need. We spend a lot of time just sorting through different fabrics and checking for any loose threads. We aren’t trying to compete with the big malls or anything like that. We just like making clothes and being part of the local neighborhood. It’s a simple life, and we don’t really want it to be any more complicated than it already is. Most of our days are spent just doing the work and drinking coffee.
