Ishani Traders

Our shop is tucked into the Central Junction on MC Road. It is a busy place, especially in the evenings when the movies at Nayanam Theatre let out. You can hear the crowd talking about the film as they walk past our doors at 56/89. We keep the lights on late because that is when we get the most walk-in customers. The shelves are packed tight with all sorts of things. I try to keep the inventory straight in my head, but sometimes I have to dig through the back room to find exactly what someone is asking for. It is a bit cramped in here. We have boxes stacked near the counter and a small stool where I sit when there are no customers. The floor tiles are a bit chipped near the entrance from years of people coming and going. Sometimes the traffic at the junction gets so bad that the smell of exhaust comes right inside. We just turn up the fan and keep going. My cousin helps me out on the weekends when it gets really frantic. We don't have a computer system; we just write everything down in a big ledger with a blue pen. It works for us. We have been here for a long time and we know most of the shopkeepers on this block. It is just a regular trading business, nothing more and nothing less. We just open up and see who comes through the door.
