We've got our place near Enneganur Road, not too far from the Sai Baba Temple. You can usually hear the sounds and bells from the temple while we’re working in the yard. It's a decent spot, and people find us easily enough when they're heading that way for prayers. We spend our long days hauling clay and making sure the bricks are stacked correctly so they can dry in the air. It's a lot of waiting for the weather to stay dry for us. If it's too humid or wet, nothing happens and we just sit around. We aren't much for fancy talk or making big promises. We just make bricks because that’s the trade we learned from our fathers. The yard is usually a bit messy with broken bits and red dust, but that’s how a real brick field is supposed to look. We handle everything ourselves, from the raw earth to the finished stacks of red. Some days are longer than others, especially when we’re finally opening the kiln. It gets incredibly hot near the opening, and you have to be careful with your hands. We see a lot of the same faces coming back when they start a new building project. It’s just a small business trying to keep things moving. We don't have a website or anything like that, just the sign out front and the work we do every day.
