Vishnu Paints

If you head out toward Kalluru in Nirmal, you’ll find us at D.No.1-180. Vishnu Paints is the name on the door, but it’s really just a place full of cans and the smell of chemicals. We’ve been here long enough that the shelves have started to sag a bit under the weight of all that paint. The floor is covered in drips of every color you can imagine, mostly because we aren't always the most careful when we’re mixing things up for a customer. It’s a dusty part of town, so we’re constantly wiping down the lids so people can see the labels. We have a small counter where we do the math and write out receipts by hand. There isn't any air conditioning, so the big front door stays open most of the day to catch whatever breeze comes through Kalluru. People from the village come in with chips of old paint or just an idea of what they want their front door to look like. We spend a lot of time stirring tins and checking color charts under the shop lights. It’s simple work, but it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down. The shelves are packed tight, and sometimes you have to move three boxes just to find the right shade of primer. It’s not a fancy store, just a regular shop where we know most of the people who walk through the door by their first names. It gets loud when the mixer is running, but that's just business.
