About Pritha Agarbatti Works – Architect, Interior & Structural Design in 24 Parganas
We spend most of our days here in the village along Martin Road. It is usually pretty quiet until the morning shift starts at Pritha Agarbatti Works. You can smell the wood dust and the different oils right from the gate. We mostly just focus on getting the mixtures right and making sure the sticks are dried properly before they get packed into boxes. It is a lot of manual work, sitting on the floor and handling the raw materials. The weather in Hasanabad really dictates how fast things dry, so we are always checking the sky for rain. Sometimes the dust from the charcoal and powder gets everywhere, but that is just how it is when you are making incense. My hands are usually stained by the end of the day. We have a small group of people from around the area who come in to help us out. It isn't a fancy setup, just a practical space where we get the job done. The road outside can get a bit muddy during the monsoon, which makes moving the crates out to the trucks a real pain. We just try to keep up with the orders that come in from the local markets nearby. It is steady work and it keeps us busy from sunrise. We do not really do much else besides the production and the packing. It is just what we do here in this part of the village.
