Prantik Sundarban Welfare Association

We are based out of Subodh Mondal’s place in Purba Piyali Kalariya, which is part of Jibantala. Being out here in the Sundarban region means things are a bit different than the city. Life moves at its own pace and we have to work around the landscape and the seasons. Prantik Sundarban Welfare Association was started by people who actually live in these villages. We know the mud and the river and how hard it can be when the weather turns bad. Our office is simple, just a room where we keep our records and meet up to talk. It isn't fancy at all. Sometimes we have to travel quite a bit just to reach people in the further parts of the area, often by boat or on foot. We do a lot of our talking under the trees or on the porches of houses. Everyone knows Subodh, so finding us isn't usually too hard if you ask around the village. We aren't some big group from far away. We are just local folks trying to look after our own. There is always something to fix or someone who needs a hand with something. We don't use big words or have complicated plans. We just see a problem and try to find a way to deal with it using what we have. It’s honest work, and it keeps us busy from morning until late evening most days. It’s a good way to spend our time.
