Down in the Narikela Bazar is where we keep our small office. If you ask for Dulal Krishna Majumder’s place, people can usually point you in the right direction. Being right in the bazaar means it’s never really quiet, which we actually enjoy. You can hear the vegetable sellers calling out their prices and the motorcycles weaving through the crowds outside. We have a couple of old wooden tables where we keep our registers and the few stamps we use for the paperwork. The walls are a bit bare, maybe just a calendar or two hanging up to keep track of the weeks. We don't have any fancy air conditioning, so we rely on the big windows to let the air move around. Sometimes a stray dog will wander in looking for shade, and we don't really mind as long as they stay out of the way. Most people who come to see us are from the village, so we know most of the faces that walk through the door. It’s a simple way of working, without any big meetings or long speeches. We just get the tasks done one by one as they come in. By the time the sun starts going down and the bazaar gets even busier for the evening rush, we are usually finishing up our last bits of work for the day.
