Ajamil Sebaniketan Charitable Foundation

We are located over in Mannapara. It’s part of the Bonhooghly-2 area in Kolkata. People around here know us as Ajamil Sebaniketan. It’s not a fancy name, just what we called it when we started. We set up here because this is our part of the city. The office is pretty basic. We have some plastic chairs and a wooden table. That’s about it for furniture. We spend most of our time talking to people from the community. It gets very hot in the summer, so we keep the fans going all day. We don’t have a website with lots of pictures or fancy graphics. We just do the work. The foundation handles different things as they come up. We aren't specialists in just one area. If someone needs help with a problem, we see what we can do to help. Sometimes we stay late when there’s a lot to finish. The neighbors are good people and they stop by just to say hello or bring us some fruit. We don't have a big budget for fancy things. Every bit of what we have goes into the projects we are working on. Kolkata is a busy place, but our little corner is where we feel at home. It’s just a group of us trying to stay useful. We don't have a boss who tells us what to do every minute. We just know what needs to happen and we do it.
