Sunalik Foundation

Sunalik Foundation is located in the Larica Township, over in Barasat on Barackpore Road. Our specific spot is 16/203, which is part of a large residential area. Living and working in a township like this means you are always around people. It is a bit far from the main city center of Kolkata, but Barasat has everything we need. We are just a small group of neighbors who decided to start something to help out. The office is basically just a room in the township where we keep our files and meet up. It is not very formal. We often wear casual clothes and just sit around a regular table to talk. The Barackpore Road is always busy, so there is a constant hum of buses and cars in the distance. We focus on local issues and trying to make life a little smoother for folks in the area. We don’t have a big mission statement or any of that corporate talk. We just see a problem and try to fix it if we can. Sometimes we organize small events in the township common areas. It is a lot of grassroots effort. We don’t have much of a hierarchy; everyone just pitches in where they are able. It is a nice way to work, being so close to where we live and knowing the people we are helping. We like the community here and want to keep it going.
