New Roy Fish Private Limited is based out of Natun Bazar, which is a lively little village area near Maslandapur. Utpal Kumar Roy runs things here, and he took over a lot of the responsibility from his father, Bijay. It is a real family effort through and through. In a place like this, everyone knows everyone, so you can't really hide if you make a mistake. We get up early, usually while it is still dark, because the fish trade doesn't wait for the sun to come up. The air always smells a bit like the local ponds and the damp earth. It is messy work sometimes, but it is honest. We spend a lot of time talking to local suppliers and making sure the transport is ready to go. The village has its own pace, and we try to stick to that. Sometimes the rain makes the roads a bit difficult, but we manage. We aren't trying to be the biggest company in the world, just a solid one that people in Maslandapur can rely on. Our office is simple, just enough room for the ledger books and a few chairs. We don't spend much on decorations because we are usually out back or on the road anyway. It has been this way for years, and we don't see any reason to change a system that works for us and the village.
