Karunamayee Women'S Association

Up on the first floor at 2 Srimani Para Lane, that’s where you’ll find Karunamayee Women'S Association. We are tucked away in Baranagar. The stairs are a bit narrow, so you have to watch your step when you come up to Flat 3. It’s mostly women from around the North 24 area who drop by. We’ve got a couple of rooms where we sit and discuss things. It gets a bit noisy when everyone is talking at once, but that’s just how it goes here. We started this because there wasn't much for the ladies in our neighborhood to do together. Now, we spend our afternoons working on various small projects. Sometimes we're organizing something for the local kids or just helping someone fill out forms. It’s not some big corporation. It’s just us. The curtains in the office are a bit old, and the tea is usually too sweet, but it feels right. We know everyone by name. If someone is sick, we notice. If someone’s kid does well in school, we hear about it. Baranagar is a busy place, and we try to be a quiet spot where people can get things sorted. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing person. We just have our small space and each other. It’s practical work. We stay busy with the day-to-day tasks that keep a community moving. We don't have much, but we make it work together.
