Icchedana Social Welfare Foundation

The Icchedana Social Welfare Foundation is located at Joydeb Biswas’s place on Swami Vivekananda Road in Barasat. We have been working out of this house for a while now. Barasat is a crowded place, and it’s easy for people to fall through the cracks. We try to be a bit of a safety net for the families around here. We don't have a lot of rules or a big corporate structure. If someone needs help with getting their kid some books or finding a doctor, they just come to the door and ask. Joydeb is usually around to talk to them. We are just a handful of volunteers who give what time we can. Sometimes we organize a small health camp or a clothing drive. It’s all very local and very simple. We don't have any fancy funding or a big office with air conditioning. Usually, we are just sitting on the porch talking about what needs to be done next. The road outside is always noisy with the sound of horns and people shouting, but it’s our home. We don't have a big mission statement or any promotional goals. We just want to help our neighbors have a slightly easier time of it. It’s a bit messy and we are always running out of space, but it’s how we like to work.
