Dishakritya Foundation

Dishakritya Foundation is out in New Town now, over at Action Area 1D. It’s a newer part of North 24 Parganas, so everything looks a bit different than the old neighborhoods. We are at Plot-DG/, 20/22. The buildings are tall and the roads are wide, but the people still have the same old problems. We set up here because we saw how quickly the area was changing. A lot of people moving in for work and a lot of others trying to keep up. Walking around and talking to workers takes up most of our time. Our office is a simple place in the middle of all this development. It feels a bit strange sometimes, being surrounded by all this construction, but it reminds us why we are here. We help with the daily grind. Maybe it’s helping a laborer understand a contract or making sure a kid has books for school. It’s not glamorous work. We don't have a big sign or anything flashy. Usually, someone just points a newcomer toward our door. We drink a lot of coffee and try to keep the paperwork from piling up too high. It’s just us trying to make sense of the new city life. We aren't experts, we are just neighbors. Some days are slow, others are a mess, but we keep the lights on for anyone who needs it. It’s a learning process for all of us in this changing landscape.
