Shumi Bhowmik's place is where we set up our office. It is located on Motijheel Avenue, right on the first floor of P-16. We spend most of our day here. It is not a fancy corporate office or anything like that. It is just a workspace with tables, chairs, and people working on designs. Kolkata gets really hot during the summer, but we keep the ceiling fans going and just get on with it. Sometimes we lose track of time when the work piles up and the sun starts to go down. We started Charumon Fashion because we needed a way to make a living doing what we knew about clothes and fabric. Most days it is just about getting the orders sorted and out the door to the customers. The stairs up to the first floor are a bit narrow, so moving big bundles of fabric is always a bit of a struggle for us. We have been at this address for a while now and the neighborhood knows who we are. It is a bit noisy outside with all the traffic and people shouting, but you get used to that after a week or two. We do not have a big marketing team or anything like that. It is just a few of us here. We usually grab tea from the small stall downstairs twice a day. That is when we talk about what needs to be done next. Fashion sounds like a big word, but mostly we are just cutting and sewing things.
