Our office, B.M.Chatrath & Co., is situated at Vidhyarthi Niwas Pvt. Ltd., 91/1 A.N.Saha Rd. in Laketown, Kolkata. It’s a bit of an older part of the area, and the building has some character to it. We are chartered accountants, so our lives revolve around the financial year and all the deadlines that come with it. Laketown is a good spot to be in, and the office on A.N.Saha Road is where we do all our thinking and calculating. There are bookshelves filled with old tax law books that we still look at sometimes when things get complicated. We don't have a corporate feel at all. It’s more like a workshop for numbers. We have computers, of course, but there is still a lot of paper moving around. We help local businesses and individuals keep their finances in order. It’s a lot of sitting and a lot of checking. Sometimes we have tea and talk about the neighborhood while we work. We don't try to impress anyone with a polished look. We just want to make sure the balance sheets are correct. It’s a straightforward business. We show up, we do the accounting, and we go home. That has been the way it works here for a long time and it suits us just fine. We just try to be helpful and accurate with every file.
