Vinayak Leather Product

Our little workshop is tucked away inside Kolpole, right in the heart of Bada Bazar. We are at number 35. If you know Bada Bazar, you know how crowded and loud it gets every single day. We work with leather, so the smell of hides is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We have piles of different leathers in the corners—some smooth, some rough. We spend our days cutting, stitching, and polishing. It’s a lot of work on our hands and we often have ink or dye under our fingernails. The space is small and the lighting could be better, but we’ve got our spots where we like to sit. We use some old sewing machines that have been with us for decades. They make a very specific clinking sound that we find comforting. Bada Bazar is a maze, so it took us a while to get used to the shortcuts to get our supplies. We don't really have a display window; we just have our work out on the tables. People who know us just come straight in. We make things like belts and bags or whatever else someone asks for. It’s not a fast process because we do most of it by hand. Sometimes we run out of a certain color and have to wait for the next delivery. We just keep at it, one piece at a time.
