Kastwel Foundries

The heat is the first thing you notice when you walk into Plot No. 46/A in Phase-1, GIDC. Working at Kastwel Foundries means getting used to the soot and the heavy air. It is hard work, and nobody here wears a suit. We are usually covered in some kind of grime by lunch. The address is easy to find if you know Vatva, but the traffic near Phase 1 can be a real headache in the evenings. We have some heavy equipment that takes a while to warm up, so the early shift starts while it is still dark outside. There is a specific sound the metal makes when it is being moved, a sort of deep ringing that stays in your ears for a while after you leave. We do not spend much time on decorations or making things look pretty. The walls are stained and the floors are rough, but that is just how a foundry is. We have a small bench outside where we take breaks. You can see the other factories from there, and it is just a sea of corrugated metal roofs. It is a simple place where we focus on the task at hand. Sometimes the work is slow, and other times we are rushing to finish everything before the weekend. It is just a regular shop where people show up and do their bit.
