Sujatha Tailouring

Sujatha Tailouring is located at House Number 24-591. It’s a small place, mostly just a front room filled with fabrics and sewing machines. You can hear the rhythmic clicking of the needles from the street. There are spools of thread in every color you can imagine sitting on the shelves. We’ve been doing this for years. Most of the work is done by hand or on the machines we’ve had since the beginning. There’s always a pile of clothes waiting to be fixed or altered. People come in with bags of fabric and we take their measurements with an old yellow tape. We don't have a fancy changing room, just a curtained-off corner. The floor is usually covered in small scraps of cloth and loose threads. We sweep it up at the end of the day, but it’s back the next morning. We don't have a big sign or any advertisements. Our customers are mostly neighbors or people who heard about us from a friend. Sometimes we’re working late into the night to finish a dress for a wedding. We drink a lot of coffee to stay awake. It’s a lot of sitting down and focusing on the details. My eyes get a bit tired by the evening. But it’s good to see someone happy with how their clothes fit. We just keep sewing.
