At Sun Rise Industries, we share the same general area at Plot 467/a in the GIDC-1 part of Jamnagar. The mornings here start with the sound of shutters rolling up all down the street. Our workspace is pretty crowded because we try to fit as much as we can into the available square footage. There are bins full of brass components and metal shavings scattered near the machines. The light comes in through some high windows that are a bit grimy, giving the whole place a dim, industrial feel until we flip the overhead switches. It’s a loud place once the motors get humming, so we usually have to shout to be heard over the din. We don’t have a big marketing team or anyone sitting in a suit; it’s just the owner and the guys who know how to run the machines. We focus on the daily output, making sure the pieces we’re making match the drawings we’ve been given. Sometimes we have to stay late to finish a batch if a client is coming by the next morning. There’s a small tea stall just a short walk away where we go once or twice a day to clear our heads. The paperwork is mostly hand-written in ledgers that sit on a cluttered desk near the main entrance. It’s a practical environment where the main goal is just to keep the production moving without too much fuss. We’ve been in Shankar Tekri long enough to know all the neighbors.
