Life at Nahar Colors Ltd. in Village-Jolwa is pretty much defined by the colors we work with every day. It’s funny because you’ll walk home and find blue or red stains on your palms that just won't come off for a few days. The factory is right there in the village, so we’re a familiar part of the neighborhood. Inside, there are big mixing vats and bags of pigment stacked up against the walls. It’s a bit noisy with the fans going to keep the air moving, but you get used to it after a week or two. We don't spend much time on fancy talk or long meetings. Usually, it’s just someone shouting over the machine noise about a batch that needs checking. Jolwa is a small place, so we see the same faces every morning when we open up the gates. We’ve got a small area where we keep the records, but mostly we are out on the floor seeing how the shades are turning out. It’s not the cleanest job in the world, and our clothes definitely show it, but there’s a certain rhythm to the work that feels good. We just keep our eyes on the mixers and make sure the barrels are loaded correctly. When the day is over, we lock up and head out, usually a bit more colorful than when we arrived in the morning. It is simple, honest work that keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday.
