If you go to the New Cloth Market in Ahmedabad, you’ll find Om Shiv Textile Mills at shop number 703 on the ground floor. Being in the cloth market means it’s always loud and crowded with people moving bales of fabric. Our shop isn't very large, but we pack it full of whatever textiles we are working with at the time. It’s a bit of a squeeze to move around in there sometimes. We’ve been in this market for a long time, and we know most of the other traders around us. The ground floor location is good because we don’t have to lug heavy rolls of cloth up any stairs. Every morning, we roll up the shutters and start sorting through the stock. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting and moving things all day. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning; it’s just the shop floor and a small desk where we keep the ledger. Ahmedabad is famous for textiles, and we are just one small part of that whole scene. We don’t do big advertising campaigns. People who need fabric usually just walk through the market and stop by when they see something they like. It’s an honest way to make a living. The air is always full of lint and the sound of people bargaining. That’s just life at Om Shiv Textile Mills. We stay here until the market closes up for the night.
