Jet Airways management in talks with airlines to place its staffers

The management of troubled carrier Jet Airways is in talks with more than 15 companies including rival carriers to facilitate alternative employment for its distressed staff even as the grounded airline struggles to find an investor, critical to its survival.

Meanwhile, three executives at its top management team have resigned and two others have gone on leave, said a person in the know.

Jet’s chief people officer, Rahul Taneja, has been in talks with his peers at Vistara and SpiceJet as well as e-commerce companies such as Amazon trying to get them to hire Jet employees, especially those employed as cabin crew. The HR team at Jet is drawing up a database of employee profiles and sharing them with prospective companies, said several persons in the know. Jet has more than 18,000 employees.

Vistara is hiring about 400 cabin crew and 100 Boeing pilots as it looks to lease 10 planes deregistered from Jet’s fleet due to non-payment of lease rentals.

SpiceJet has hired 1,000 and is looking for more as it looks to lease 40 planes.

Air India is hiring about 250 pilots and crew. An Amazon spokesperson didn’t respond to queries before the story went to press.

Meanwhile Jet’s general counsel Ashok Barimar put in his papers late last month. Barimar had joined the airline in 1999. Abhijit Dasgupta, vice president, planning, and Adam Voss, senior vice president, engineering and maintenance, have also resigned. Pradeep Kumar, senior vice president, cargo, and Jayaraj Shanmugam, executive vice president, products and services, have gone on leave.

Jet did not respond to queries seeking comment before the story went to press.

Jet’s Taneja wrote to employees on Tuesday saying the airline had no funds to pay the premium for their mediclaim policy. The employees haven’t been paid salaries since January.

Jet’s employees have repeatedly written to the government in appeals to save the airline, as they look at an uncertain future after its suspension of operations.

They have also protested the government’s move to allocate the airline’s flight slots to its peers.

There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don't look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn't anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text.
