How dare she: Nirbhaya's mother blasts Indira Jaising on 'forgive convicts' remark
Who is Indira Jaising? Cannot believe she even dared to suggest this, Nirbhaya's mother on Saturday blasted senior advocate Indira Jaising for asking her to pardon the men on death row who were convicted for the 2012 gang rape of her daughter.
Indira Jaising on Friday had asked Nirbhaya's mother to forgive her daughter's convicts like Sonia Gandhi who had forgiven Nalini, a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
Reacting to this, Nirbhaya's mother slammed Indira Jaising and said it is "because of people like her that justice is not done with rape victims".
"Who is Indira Jaising to give me such a suggestion? Whole country wants the convicts to be executed. Just because of people like her, justice is not done with rape victims," Asha Devi was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Nirbhaya's mother claimed that she had Indira Jaising over the years and in Supreme Court but "not once" was the senior advocate concerned about her well beng.
"Can't believe how Indira Jaising even dared to suggest this. I met her many times over the years in Supreme Court and not once she asked about my well being and today she is speaking for the convicts. Such people earn livelihood by supporting rapists, hence rape incidents don't stop," Nirbhaya's mother said.
Indira Jaising on Friday took to Twitter to make the request shortly after Asha Devi expressed her disappointment when a Delhi court postponed the date of the execution of the four convicts.
"While I fully identify with the pain of Asha Devi I urge her to follow the example of Sonia Gandhi who forgave Nalini and said she didn't not want the death penalty for her. We are with you but against the death penalty," Indira Jaising tweeted.
