Devi Rice Mill

If you go past the bus stop at Purna Market, you’ll see Devi Rice Mill. We are right there on Town Kotha Road, near Jagadamba Junction. It's a busy spot, always a lot of people and buses moving around. We’ve been at this address for a long time. The mill is where we spend all our hours, mostly dealing with the local supply. It’s a dusty job, and your clothes usually end up smelling like grain by the end of the day. We don’t have a big team, just a few of us making sure the rice is handled right. The machinery needs a lot of looking after, or it starts acting up. We open early because that’s when the market is most active. Sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming with the noise from the street and the mill running at the same time. We just focus on the bags and the customers. Most people stop in because they’re already at the market for other things. We talk about the weather or how busy the road is while we work. It’s not a complicated business. We just take in the rice and process it. The space is a bit cramped with all the sacks piled up, but we know where everything is. It’s just how we make a living here in this part of town. No frills, just hard work and plenty of rice to move.
