We’re based in the A To Z Industrial Estate on G. K. Marg in Lower Parel. Being in unit 124, we’ve seen how this neighborhood has changed from old mills to all these big glass towers, but our estate still feels like the old Mumbai. It’s a solid, gritty place to work. We deal with all sorts of measuring instruments and tools. Our day usually starts with checking the calibration on things and answering a pile of emails from factories that need specific gear. The floor is concrete and the shelves are heavy steel, packed with boxes of gauges and meters. It’s a lot of technical detail, and you have to be careful with the numbers. We aren't the type to wear suits; we’re usually in work shirts with pens in our pockets. The afternoon heat can be tough, but the ceiling fans do their best to keep the air moving. We talk to a lot of guys who work in the plants nearby and understand the kind of pressure they’re under to keep things running. Lower Parel is always a mess with traffic, so we tend to stay put once we get in for the morning. We take our tea breaks together and usually just talk about the cricket scores or whatever else is in the news. It’s a quiet, steady kind of business. We’ve been here for years, and we just keep doing what we’ve always done without much fuss or noise.
