Polysacks Manufacturing Co. is tucked into the Hind Saurashtra Industrial Estate at Marol Naka in Andheri East. Being at C-8 means we’re right in the middle of all the traffic and noise of the city, but once you’re inside, it’s all about the bags. We make a lot of different kinds of sacks, and the place is always full of giant rolls of woven material. The sound of the machines is pretty constant, a fast clicking and whirring that fills the whole space. It’s a bit cramped because we try to store as much as we can indoors so it stays clean. We walk through narrow aisles between stacks of finished sacks that go all the way up to the rafters. The air has that specific smell of new plastic and ink from the printers. Sometimes we have to move everything around just to get one specific pallet out for a customer. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting and moving those heavy bundles all day long. We don’t have much in the way of decoration, just some old fans trying to move the air around. The workers here are used to the pace and the heat of the Andheri afternoons. We just focus on keeping the machines fed with material and making sure the piles of finished goods don't tip over. It’s a straightforward manufacturing job and we stay busy with it from morning until late.
