Omkar Auto Mobile

Down on Matru Mandir Road 2 in Jawahar Nagar, you’ll find our shop, Omkar Auto Mobile. We are at X-87/1, which is a busy little corner of Vikhroli East. The air around here usually smells like grease and exhaust, which is fine by us since we spend all day around cars and bikes. It’s a small space, so we have to stack the tires and spare parts pretty high to make everything fit. You can’t really walk through the shop without stepping over a wrench or an oil pan, but that is just how a working garage looks. We have been here for years, and the walls are covered in old calendars and dust. People from all over the neighborhood bring their vehicles here when they make a funny noise or won't start in the morning. We don't have a fancy waiting room with a TV. Most customers just stand around and talk to us while we work on their engines. Sometimes we have to send someone out to fetch a specific part if we don't have it on the shelf, which takes a bit of time in the Mumbai traffic. We just do our best to get people back on the road. It is hard work and our hands are always stained black with oil, but we don't mind. It’s what we know how to do. We usually keep the doors open late until the last job of the day is finally finished.
