If you ever find yourself at the Bata Railway Crossing in Faridabad, you might see our shop at N I T Shop No 43. It’s a small place, right where you can hear the trains whistling and the gates clanking shut throughout the day. Working at Amar Roadways means dealing with the constant noise and the dust from the industrial area nearby. We don’t have a big corporate headquarters; it’s just this shop where we manage all our trucking routes. The space is tight, and we usually have calendars from three years ago still hanging on the walls alongside the current ones. We spend a lot of time sitting on plastic chairs, talking to customers who walk in off the street needing to send a load to another city. Faridabad is a busy hub, and being near the railway crossing means we see everyone passing by. We don't have a mission statement or any fancy goals. We just try to make sure the cargo gets loaded properly and the driver knows where he’s going. There’s a lot of tea drinking and waiting for the traffic to clear so the trucks can actually get out of the lane. It’s a simple, honest way to make a living, and we’ve been doing it this way for a long time now. The heat in the shop can be intense, but we just keep the fan running.
