A brief difference between Textile, Yarn and Fabric:

Textile:

Initially, the word “textile” was only meant for woven fabrics but today it has a broader meaning and applies to yarns, fabrics, fibers, or products made out of the same. Going by the literal definition, it means “a general term applied to any manufacture from fibers, filaments or yarns characterized by flexibility, fineness and high ratio of length to thickness.

Yarn:

A yarn is a textile product with a continuous strand of filament fibers arranged in a form suitable for knitting, weaving, or any other form of fabric assembly. Yarn is also a product of substantial length and a relatively small cross-section consisting of fibers with a twist and/or filaments without a twist.

It is used to produce fabrics and can also be used for knitting, crocheting, or ropemaking.

Fabric:

Fabrics can be classified into 2 categories- natural and synthetic fabrics. The natural fabrics are cotton, silk, and wool. While synthetic fabrics are, nylon, polyester, acrylic, rayon, and spandex.

Natural fibers are harvested from plants or by shearing animal fur. The most well-known are- cotton, wool, silk, and jute. Hair-bearing animals such as silkworms and sheep are shorn of their fur to produce fabrics like wool and silk.

Textiles are used for varied purposes, from clothing to bags and baskets to household items such as upholstery to carpets and bedsheets. Fabrics have also been modified in technical structures such as automotive applications, medical textiles, geotextiles, agro-textiles, protective clothing such as fire-fighting clothing, bulletproof vests, etc.
